Back to School Is Almost Here

Get that school shopping in this weekend, because both of our districts head back on the same day.

  • Anchor Bay School District: First day is Monday, August 31, a half day for all students.

  • L’Anse Creuse Public Schools: First day is Monday, August 31, a half day for students and teachers.

One more for the calendar: both districts are closed September 4 through September 7 for Labor Day weekend, with classes resuming Tuesday, September 8. One week in, then a four-day breather.

📍
Local Civic & Roadwork Updates

  • Cotton Road asphalt work is underway. Preservation work started Monday on Cotton Road between Gratiot (M-3) and Halo Drive. The road stays open and you can still reach every property along it, but expect delays and take an alternate route if you can. About 30 days total, weather permitting.

  • Selfridge expansion moves forward. Supervisor Kersten attended a milestone event for the Rosso Highway and runway relocation project at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, home of the 127th Wing.

    Around Town

  • Country Fest wants your food truck or small business. Anchor Bay Country Fest is taking applications from food trucks, artisans, makers, and local businesses for its September 18 and 19 weekend downtown. Thousands of people are expected and space is limited. Apply at abcountryfest.com.

  • Cool Down with the Chesterfield Fire Department was a soaker. Crews met families at Brandenburg Park last Friday for a hose-down before school starts. Two years running now as one of the department’s most popular events. Watch for a Summer 2027 date.

That’s a wrap for this week’s Anchor Bay Current. See you around town!
